Short (under 30 minutes)
On November 2, 1995, 11-year-old Jacob Hunter is coerced by his father into ruthlessly slaughtering his pet lamb as part of a ritual to mark his passage into manhood. On that day, Jacob's beloved big sister Candice, cannot protect him. Despite the pleas she makes to her mother and the resistance she poses to her father, she cannot save Jacob from his 'blooding.'Twelve years later, Jacob is a Marine, medically discharged from his duties in Iraq following a mysterious incident, returning home to surprise his beloved sister on her birthday. Candice has been excommunicated from her family--all except for Jacob, whose well-being she still feels an overwhelming responsibility for and whose trauma still colors every decision she makes. Jacob, before going to Candice's apartment, buys two bus tickets, one for himself and one for his sister. He's certain they can escape together, find a foreign place, and redeem their violent origins by starting life again. However, when Jacob arrives at Candice's apartment and discovers that she is not who he wants her to be, he is forced to confront and exorcize the inherited violence, rage, and hatred he is surprised to see inside himself. To do this, Jacob must painfully revisit the day his innocence was lost. And cathartically take it back. The following day, November 2nd, 2007, on the anniversary of his 'blooding,' Jacob Hunter wakes up in the bed he once shared with his sister and orchestrates one final protest against his father's bidding.

AUGUST is the story of two brothers, Tom and Joshua Sterling (Josh Hartnett and Adam Scott) whose Internet start-up, Landshark, is as hot as a New York City summer - only this is the summer of 2001, their company is in lock up, its stock price is plunging and, in a few weeks, the world will change forever. But right now Tom is living the hedonistic life of an Internet star, the kind we of guy we might have seen profiled on 60 Minutes II: he dates multiple women, drives a bitchin' '69 Camaro convertible and hangs out at a new club called Bungalow 8. But, like an emo version of Patrick Bateman, it somehow never seems to matter that Tom is not quite able to explain what his company actually does.

Between The Folds depicts a cast of fine artists, intrepid mathematicians and theoretical scientists who have abandoned conventional careers and scoffed at hard-earned graduate degrees - all to forge lives as modern-day paperfolders. As these provocative minds converge on the unlikely medium of origami, they reinterpret the world in paper, bringing forth a fascinating mix of sensibilities towards art, expressiveness, creativity and meaning. And together, they demonstrate the innumerable ways that art and science come to bear as we struggle to understand and honor the world around us - fusing science and sculpture, form and function, ancient and new.

Ed Artis, James Laws and Walt Ratterman are three middle aged men whose idea of adventure is taking desperately needed food and medicine into the world's most dangerous places. The three men are self-styled Knights of Malta, and in 1995, they formed Knightsbridge International, a unique humanitarian aid organization comprised of the three individuals, whose motto is 'High Adventure and Service to Humanity.' Their specialty is going where death from landmines, bullets, or bombs is as frequent as death from hunger, disease, or the elements. As Laws tells it simply, 'We do what we can, when we can, because we can.'Artis, Laws and Ratterman are a fusion of Mother Teresa and Indiana Jones. Their personal convictions and courage drive them to places like Afghanistan, Albania, Chechnya, Cambodia, Rwanda and the southern Philippines, often before other aid organizations arrive. The three are still on the ground when other aid organizations deem things too dangerous and pull out. Artis explains: 'We're not there to change anybody's politics, we're not in the God business, and we pay our own way.'BEYOND THE CALL inspires as it entertains. The camera follows Artis, Laws and Ratterman as they take us through some of the most forbidding yet beautiful places on Earth, on a journey into the heart of humanity and the soul of courage.BEYOND THE CALL is made in the cinema vérité style of the director's previous Academy Award nominated film, Genghis Blues.
Documentary (all length)
High and Outside is a raucous, rousing, iconoclastic journey through the baseball life of Bill ?Spaceman? Lee. One of the most colorful and controversial figures to play the game, Bill?s rebellious spirit, fun-loving attitude, spirit-of-the-60s philosophy endeared him to fans but pitted him squarely in opposition to the corporate baseball establishment. And Bill did not back down.Rumor had it that Bill was blackballed from baseball, a conspiracy that has never been uncovered. How could the fun loving ?Spaceman? be kicked out of baseball? Why? Too controversial ? or simply washed up? 'High & Outside' looks for answers. Anything but conventional, Bill was the first professional athlete to admit using marijuana; he took sides on everything from artificial turf to segregation in schools. A "baseball utopian," Bill was actively involved in the early days of the baseball players union. He staged one-man walkouts but opposed the 1981 strike. Lee was a voice of reason and sanity in a game corrupted by 'planet-polluting owners' and the corporate mindset. He was consistently unpredictable, 'a free man, and a free-radical, not owned by any corporation, yet becoming increasingly difficult to handle for owners and management. 'High and Outside' reveals Bill's enigmatic personality and the unlikely story of Bill's banishment from the game. In the tradition of 'Bang the Drum Slowly', and 'Fear Strikes Out', 'High and Outside' will make you think, especially make you laugh, and remind you that there is more to baseball than steroids, salaries, and the bottom line.
